The Critical Path Opportunities Report published by the FDA in March 2006
identified the challenges and opportunities facing the pharmaceutical product
pipeline problem. The report was developed through extensive outreach and
consultation with public and private stakeholders. Six priority public health
challenges were identified with the remarkable consensus indicating biomarker
development as one of the top two most important areas to be focused on.
